Mosiah 7-10

Mosiah 7
Three years later, 16 men were sent back to find
Those who had returned to the land Lehi-Nephi.
Led by one named Ammon, they got lost on their way
And they wandered till they were surrounded one day.
They were captured and imprisoned by King Limhi.
When he questioned them Ammon was quick to reply,
“I’m from Zarahemla!  We came here to find you!”
Limhi gathered his people to share the good news.
His grandfather Zeniff, an over-zealous man,
Accidentally fell into the Lamanites’ hands.
Zeniff was in bondage; his people moaned and groaned!
And for years their captors took half of all they owned.
But, with Ammon there, Limhi confidently said,
“We’ll soon be delivered!  Rejoice!  Lift up your heads!
“Our captivity was due to my father’s sins.
“He led our people to do very wicked things.
“But if we trust God and serve Him with all our might
“He’ll help us escape.  My friends, freedom is in sight!”

Mosiah 8
Then King Limhi asked Ammon to speak to the crowd.
So he shared King Ben’s words, of which he was so proud.
When the people left, Limhi asked Ammon if he
Could interpret plates on which there were engravings.
Limhi’s people had found them in a land devoid
Of all forms of life—all the people were destroyed.
He wanted to find out the reason for their fall.
Ammon said, “King Mosiah will translate them all.
“He is called a seer—he has the ability
“To translate and predict what the future will be.”
There’s no greater spiritual gift given to man
It’s given so that they’ll serve others when they can.

Mosiah 9
Now we’ll learn how Limhi’s grandfather came to be
Enslaved to the Lamanites in captivity.
Zeniff and a small group had been sent back to spy
On the Lamanites living in the land Nephi.
He told his leaders, “These people are not that bad.
“Let’s make peace with them.”  This made his leaders so mad!
Still, Zeniff was obsessed with taking back their land.
He had no idea what the Lamanites had planned.
The king of the Lamanites said they could reside
In their lands freely, but it turned out he had lied.
His people were lazy and didn’t want to work
Having Nephites grow crops for them would be a perk.
So, after 12 years, Zeniff’s people were attacked
By the Lamanites, but God helped them drive them back.
God answered their prayers!  While their foes lost 3,000,
Zeniff’s people lost 300.  They were all stunned.
Mosiah 10
Though they’d won that battle, Zeniff armed every man
Just in case the Lamanites came to fight again.
He had many guards keeping watch over his lands
So they wouldn’t fall into the Lamanites’ hands.
After 22 more years, they were prospering.
Meanwhile, the Lamanites were crowning a new king.
He stirred up his people to anger so they’d fight,
But the Lord’s strength was, once again, with the Nephites.
Zeniff’s people slayed more of them than they could count.
And soon Zeniff grew old and ended his account.
